I’m all a flutter with inspiration this morning. I started the day off as per usual, coffee and sketch book. Cutting drawings down to fit into my luggage for my departure back to Cow-Town on Tuesday, lining figures, flipping back and forth between drawings in my sketchbook rampantly outlining, adding new appendages;
and something new came to me. As I’ve been cutting away so much positive and negative space, throwing light through them, working in their intricate shadows; since my arrival, I’m now overwhelmed with the access of wonderful flowing organic and geometric shapes left over. This has brought me to a new place to draw in these new shapes, repeat them, use them as adornments, reconfigure them into a new whole, mix and match, and MaSh them UP. I’m at play, I feel like a D.J, mixing, cutting records, looping and beat juggling with these forms. Space, place, shape, shadow, positive/negative, beat matching and scratching-bringing it all together into a cohesive wholeness that flows just right. Cut it up, and put it all back together again.
It is going to be an exciting day, we are raising Cal’s 20,000 gallon oil tank onto its new concrete pad we poured two weeks ago. This endured cutting the cylindric form into quarters, welding it back together into two ellipse halved lengths, and muscling it upright welding the two 12’ halves into a cylinder once again.
Cal has yet to grace the day and I’ve already taken over her drawing table, cleaned it up again to leave to trace of my trespass, finished a painting (in my head of a work on the go in my studio at the University-with the new insight of ‘something new’), shot some work, and wrote this blog, I feel like a kid on Christmas, anxiously awaiting the waking of my parents so I can tear open my presents-(get to work). I think I’ll let Cal sleep today.
