 ABOUT THIS BLOG:

Hello all,

I (Kidbertski), have constructed this blog site to track my apprenticeship with internationally acclaimed sculptor Cal Lane (www.callane.com) in New York City.  This is part of my 605 summer/spring class at the University of Calgary where I am an MFA Candidate.  This site will also allow my committee to 'keep tabs' on what I'm up to and is a place for comments and open dialogue about art, culture, and stuffs.

The beginning of this adventure starts in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, where, before my departure for NYC I am installing a public sculpture in Maffeo-Sutton Park.  'Out From Out Where X' is part of Nanaimo Culture and Heritage Departments Temporary Art Initiative, and this sculpture will be in situ for one year.  In the STUDIO/SHOP/SKETCHBOOK section, you will find images of works in progress that I will be assisting Cal with and a daily-ish sketchbook gallery of images.  My sketchbook is the foundation for my interdisciplinary art practice.

ART PRACTICE: is currently grounded in an expressive line which is inspired by my street art endeavours and specifically relates to the line a graffiti artist uses in tagging to convey their pseudo name.  It is also inspired by Automatism which is a Surrealist based concept of allowing the subconscious to guide the hand, as well as in my practice in mediation.  In this formation of line, I call “intuitive line flow” figurative works are rendered related to the open communities I am connected to.  I express this line in an interdisciplinary art practice which is based in drawing, painting, and sculpture which extends to an aesthetic cross-pollination and cross-referencing of graffiti and street art.  I sculpt in stone, steel, and wood, and paint and draw in aerosol, acrylic, and one-shot enamel.
